  • Greyline: If Vanity Fades Greyline asked me to create a music video for their 12" split EP "Epidemic Of The Forked Tongue". I looked for inspiration in photographic portraits of laborers in the beginning of the 19th century.

The plan was to film the entire project in black and white, but during the editing process we brought back the color. The result: a rough and tough music video infused with an explosion of color.

  • Pioneers of Love: Arrest Me Now The second music video I made for the Pioneers of Love. They wanted a space-theme, so we filmed the video in a 1:1 model of an International Space Station. By means of some green screening and visual effects added in post-production, this was the result.     2012 Cinematography, Film, Visual Effects
  • A Liquid Landscape: Nightingale Express, the artwork A Liquid Landscape - Nightingale Express is a project in which music and (moving) images are combined to form a story. In this project, music from the Dutch band A Liquid Landscape is being combined with different sorts of visual interpretation, explanation and atmosphere. The project has two aspects to it.

The first part of the project consists of a short movie which goes hand in hand with the concept album 'Nightingale Express' . This movie was released on the 24th of september 2011. The album itself is to be released the 20th of january 2012. In this film, the story being told by the music is accentuated by the images to form an overall storyline. This way of storytelling is also continued in a live performance. In this performance the band plays a 35 - 55 minute show accompanied by visuals from the film. The way of combining the music with the visuals is very powerful and creates a warm blanket of atmosphere which engulfs the audience. This show, while being in it's try-out phase, has received a lot of positive feedback so far.

The second part consists of the creation of the artwork that supports the album. This artwork forms a bridge between all of the aspects in music, visuals and live show. It is the last piece to a big puzzle we've been working on for over a year now.

  • Pioneers of Love: Fear of Heights This music video was created for the Dutch band 'Pioneers of Love'. The band wanted something visually stunning and wide landscapes, while keeping the attention on the band itself.

We chose to go to the Swiss Alps and shot the video there in three days. While it being a very beautiful place, the locations were at an altitude of 3000 meters and very hard to reach. In the end we managed to get to several beautiful locations, including a green valley, mountainsides and even a glacier including waterfalls.

  • Bliksem & Betonrot Bliksem & Betonrot is about the group 'De Dichters van Epibreren' (The Poets from Epibreren) from Groningen who for fifteen years roamed the Dutch stages with a combination of music and poetry.

Directors Regina Broersma and Rene Duursma highlight the significance of this group of northern poets on the basis of interviews, archive footage, performances at home and abroad.

I did most of the camerawork for this documentary.

  • Spotrockers: Vliegen The dutch band 'Spotrockers' contacted me. They needed a clip for their new single which was due to release in two weeks.

So we only had two weeks to plan the production, shoot and edit the music video. When we started shooting, a lot was still unclear about the plot and de progression of the clip. In the end we kind of just rolled with it and shot a lot of shots on the fly.

In the end, the deadline was reached and the clip turned out pretty cool as well! I love it when that happens!

  • Noorderzon Leader A leader for the Noorderzon festival 2011. The Noorderzon festival is one of the more renowned cultural festivals in The Netherlands.     2011 Digital Art, Film, Motion Graphics
  • Groningen Schreeuwt om Cultuur A registration of the protests concerning the financial cuttbacks on culture in the Netherlands. The music is by A Perfect Circle. Runtime: 2 minute, 29 seconds.     2011 Digital Art, Film
  • Format Gava: Kris & Lex Vesseur For Format Gava 2010 I teamed up with my sister to make a show about our own family history. We combined our own family archive - which contained photos, letters and some super 8mm footage - with the massive collection of the Groninger Archives. This resulted in six stories performed with live music and live visuals. Kris Vesseur wrote the music, I designed the visuals. We performed the show twice on the Noorderzon Festival (NL) and once at 'The Best of Format Gava' in Forum Images, Groningen (NL).

To combine all these different elements I made a motion graphic storyboard in which the archive material was placed. This way the visual style remained intact throughout the whole show. Themes such as 'life' and 'death' were a common thing in the stories and I tried to reflect this in the visuals. This is one of the six stories. The Noorderzon festival is one of the more renowned cultural festivals in The Netherlands.

  • Elements BeMedia asked me to design some movie-like visuals for the entrance at the Philips Consumer Lifestyle Building in Drachten (NL). The visuals are shown on 12 full HD screens which are embedded in the wall. I teamed up with Janine van Veen who came up with the Elements-concept. What started out as a simple project slowly grew to a massive undertaking.

In the end we managed to produce about 30 minutes of usable material which included super-slowmotion and underwater footage. All footage was shot in full HD. Below you can find an impression of the project with audio (this version was also used in the 'Aqua Luma project'). The entrance-version at the Philips Consumer Lifestyle Building has no audio and has a longer runtime.

  • Taton 'Taton' is a reaction on 'Concepts of a dynamic society and the ultimate destruction of the earth' in which I refined my techniques. I used a portrait of the producer Taton I took a while back and made two versions of it. It had a serious Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde -feel to it. Taton himself later asked me if he could use the design for his 100 track EP and website design. The prints measure 240x174 cm (94x68 inches).     2010 Digital Art, Fine Arts, Photo Manipulation
  • Greyline Promo The band Greyline asked me to film and edit a short impression of the band and at the same time to promote their new album. Runtime: 1 minute, 16 seconds.     2010 Digital Art, Film
  • A Liquid Landscape: Long Lost Traveler 'The band A Liquid Landscape contacted me to do the artwork for their upcoming release. Water was an overall theme in the songs so we decided it could be applied to the artwork as well. We did an underwater photoshoot resulting in a very clean design. Later, I started experimenting with water influencing the photographs which gave very interesting results. For the final design we decided to create a mixture of clean and distorted images, giving it a grungy feeling but still keep the calm atmosphere of the photography.     2009 Digital Art, Fine Arts, Photography
  • Format Gava: Kim Janssen & Lex Vesseur A series of ten movies I made for Kim Janssen for the Format Gava project on the Noorderzon Fesival. All videos were shown in 4 performances in combination with live visuals and a live band performing the music. We tried to create a suitable atmosphere in which Kim's songs about his travels were accompanied by a visual interpretation. There was a catch though: I could only use filmmaterial from a database with old digitalised movies.

The video itself consists of a compilation of old 8mm, super 8 and 16mm footage shot in a period ranging from 1944 till the 1980's, edited into a new whole. All footage was shot by citizens from (and around) the city of Groningen, The Netherlands. The music is composed by the very talented Kim Janssen, which he performed with his 'Major Cities band'. The music in the video's was recorded live. The Noorderzon festival is one of the more renowned cultural festivals in The Netherlands.n of old 8mm, super 8 and 16mm footage shot in a period of 1944 till the 1980's all blended together into a new whole. All footage was shot by citizens from (and around) the city of Groningen, The Netherlands.

The music was composed by the very talented Kim Janssen and is performed by himself with his 'Major Cities band'. Since there are no studio recordings yet of these songs (except for Homesick), the music in the video's are rehearsel recordings, so my appologies for the bad quality.
